What Does Reversing Roe Actually Mean and What Do We Do?

This is where real work needs to be done and we need to pay attention.

When the SCOTUS opinion was leaked, a male friend asked me what the decision would actually mean. There are logistics involved and he was very honest in admitting he didn’t know what those are. I am certain he is not alone. As I am angry scrolling through social media today, I am seeing the same questions as people try to wrap their brains around what happens now.

What does the decision actually mean?

States have always had the right to pass laws restricting abortion. However, groups opposing such laws have filed suits against these states to deem the laws unconstitutional, saying that the laws violate a woman’s right to an abortion. The landmark case of Roe v. Wade was the case history used to support overturning the laws.

With the SCOTUS reversing Roe, they are stating up front that not only do states have the right to make laws restricting abortions but that the SCOTUS will side with the state and the law will not be overturned. This gives a lot of power to states.
