That's funny. Most of my friends are musicians. Two bands had record deals with major labels and ditched them because of exactly what you said. Most of the musicians I know are small label, self made people. It's a hard life.
And I agree about your assessment of Grind Culture. He sales pitch seems like all there is to sell. I have a friend that does very well selling essential oils. Even turned me into an oily hippie. And I held out a long time! I will rave to friends about how much I love oils but I would NEVER sell them. Ever.
What I've realized is that life in the slow lane fits me. Would I love to semi-retire in five years and live in an RV traveling around? Sure. Am I willing to hustle to do it? Nope. Instead, I keep down shifting at my job into easier and easier roles. I get my sense of purpose and satisfaction from my political volunteering.
