Oh, let’s back the truck up.

First, you miss the entire message of my article. My article, very clearly, was intended to explain an example of male privilege to those that repeatedly say it doesn’t exist. There is female privilege. Absolutely. Your example, though, is ludicrous.

Second, the purchasing of cocktails has nothing to do with privilege. Stereotypes regarding gender roles and behaviors, yes. Privilege, no. I do not the the privilege of walking into a bar and assuming everything is free. I’m a grown as woman and I buy my own drinks. Men have the privilege of taking a drink from someone assuming it will not be tainted.

Third, it must be incredibly easy for someone who has never feared being drugged in a bar and then raped and/or murdered to suggest that it is akin to the insult you feel in assuming someone wants a free drink. You’d trade me. Okay. Let’s trade. Because you can CHOOSE not to buy someone’s drink. The only way I can CHOOSE not to be drugged and raped is by acting in a safe manner you don’t even think about.

Lastly, the last time I checked, women were enlisted in the military, have fought in combat and have died. Just like men.

You want to minimize disadvantages and maximize advantages. Make the world a safe place for women to live.

You, sir, are the exact target audience of my piece. It’s unfortunate you missed the point completely.
