It’s definitely a thing. As I understand it, the church is dividing into two factions with a Traditionalist church that still upholds a ban on gay marriage and one that allows it. So, if you are a member of the “new” Methodist Church and want to get married to your same sex partner, you can now do so in a Methodist Church in a ceremony presided over by a Methodist pastor.
