It’s a five dollar investment with a ROI that is concrete. To not invest $5 in yourself when you are looking to create income is myopic. If someone is not going to invest $5 in themselves, I can’t help them.
Medium is a community. That $5 personal investment not only supports the platform and its writers but is a powerful tool for writers to connect with other writers.
Because I pay the $5 a month, I can read unlimited articles. Reading other people’s work helps me as a writer. It gives me something to strive for. I can comment on those articles which allows me to engage and connect. That creates my support system and has, without a doubt, helped create a base of incredibly supportive friends who support me and my work and help me grow.
I’ve gotten return on that $5 investment more times over than I can count. I think people who can’t scrape together $5, I mean REALLY can’t cut enough coupons, are very few and far between. I watch. I see a lot of curated pieces by professionals that I don’t think are pulling the cushions off the couch looking for spare change.
